HAMPTON, GA. (November 7, 2006) - Harvest Nights Raises over $150,000 for Speedway Children's Charities and the Ryan Newman Foundation.
The Ryan Newman Foundation and the Atlanta chapter of Speedway Children's Charities played host to a charity reception and auction on October 26th at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Presented by Alltel Wireless, the first time event was an overwhelming crowd pleaser for the nearly 300 in attendance.
The star-studded reception gave race fans the opportunity to meet and greet NASCAR Nextel Cup Series drivers Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne and David Ragan, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers Rick Crawford and Ron Hornaday, Nextel Cup Crew Chief Chad Knaus and special guest Rex White.
Guests enjoyed jazz music provided by "The Night Sky Trio" and a special selection of foods prepared by Levy Restaurant, but the highlight was undoubtedly the live auction. David Ragan made quite a statement by offering $5,750 to ride the pace lap with Tony Stewart. Earlier in the week the former champion commented on Ragan's driving ability during the Martinsville race and David thought it would be a great way for the two to men to discuss the situation while raising money for charity. Stewart was so amused by the gesture he agreed to match the donation. Not to be outdone, Kahne and Newman's wife, Krissie, had a nightlong bidding war on a Derek Jeter autographed jersey. Kahne may be able to beat Ryan on the track, but with a bid of $1,200, Krissie proved who the real winner is.
The funds will be split equally between Speedway Children's Charities and the Ryan Newman Foundation with a portion of the proceeds from the event designated for Noah's Ark, an Atlanta area children's orphanage, pet adoption center, and wild animal sanctuary.
Speedway Children's Charities provides funds to organizations that meet the direct needs of children. From mentoring programs to camps for special needs children, we best affect children's lives by supporting organizations that work tirelessly to see that children's needs are met and that no child is left behind regardless of illness, social environment, or disability. Speedway Children's Charities and the Ryan Newman Foundation are both 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. For more information, visit www.speedwaycharities.org.
The Ryan Newman Foundation was founded by NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Ryan Newman and his wife, Krissie in January 2005. The mission of the foundation is to educate and encourage people to spay/neuter their pets and to adopt dogs and cats from animal shelters; to educate children and adults about the importance of conservation so the beauty of the great outdoors can be appreciated by future generations; and to provide college scholarship funding through the Rich Vogler Scholarship program to students interested in auto racing careers.
