In 1994, Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Optimist Clubs of Henry and Clayton counties formed the Speedway Children's Charities Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to raising funds to be distributed to qualified children's charitable organizations. Presently the Speedway Children's Charities Atlanta Board of Trustees consists of 14 members from all over the Atlanta area and a countless number of volunteers.
Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Atlanta chapter of Speedway Children's Charities has raised over million dollars to date. In 2009 over 235,000 was awarded to 32 local children's organizations. Grants are given to a variety of organizations and most likely have touched the life of someone you know. These funds were raised by the generous support of the racing, corporate and local communities.
Each year the money raised is done so in a variety of ways. Events are held such as a Celebrity Dinner and Silent Auction, Festival of Suites, Golf Tournament, Motorcycle Poker Run, Clay Shoot and Memorabilia Auction, just to name a few. Corporate and Individual donations are also accepted.
